It is now less than 72 hours until the doors open to arguably the greatest event of the year – ‘D-Day’ or ‘Dagga Day’ rolls around once again on 4/20 at the Val Bonne Country Estate in Modderfontein. This will be the 7th such event – an annual occurrence celebrating the support of legalisation for all South Africans.

This year will be historic as it is the first D-Day since the Constitutional Court ruled in September that the private use of marijuana is now legal. You’re ganja wanna have a good time this weekend (see what I did there?) so here is everything you need to know in the build up to the greenest cannival Mzansi has ever seen.

Where is it this year?

D-Day has returned to the beautiful Val Bonne Country Estate in Modderfontein, just outside Johannesburg. There will be signage from the Marlboro offramp on the N1. If you are using Google maps, the public entrance is here – https://goo.gl/maps/zJPTD6ZYhxs

What can be brought to the event?

So the first and most palpable question on all your stoner minds is – can we bring weed to the event?

The simple answer – Yes (within reason obviously). The Sebenza cluster police as well as numerous other authorities have given the green light for attendees to LAWFULLY bring small amounts of weed for their own personal use into the venue without fear of punishment.

The blue-light brigade will still be out in full force and may search you or your car. They are NOT looking to confiscate your herb (I promise!) but rather searching for weapons and glass which are prohibited from being brought into the festival. These include glass bongs so please rather leave these at home.

Again, it must be stressed that smoking of your dope, dagga, cannabis – whatever you like to call it – can only be done inside the event. You will be taking a HUGE risk smoking openly in your vehicle, the car-park or the queue as you will TECHNICALLY be breaking the law so just don’t do it. There will be some seriously cool stalls on display in the event with great food and music to compliment them so it will be well worth the wait anyway.

PROHIBITED ITEMS

  • NO WEAPONS OR GLASS
  • NO CAMPING CHAIRS OR GAZEBOS
  • NO COOLER BOXES OR PICNICS

Please guys, this is a fund-raising event so let’s support the locals.
